ACKNOWLEDGE GOD, AMERICA !
1. The DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE served a great purpose during the struggle to establish the nation. It refers to "nature's God", "their Creator", "Supreme Judge of the world", and "Divine Providence. These references to God are often used by political and other speakers to indicate that we are a Godly people. We tend to think of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA as having equal status. NOT SO. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE is an historic document only and has no official status today. The working document is the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
2. The ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION acknowledged GOD with the words "great Governor of the World".
3. The constitution of every state of the United States of America acknowledges GOD.
4. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST" appear on coinage and paper money of the United States of America. This acknowledgement of GOD first appeared on a two-cent piece in 1864. Salmon P. Chase, secretary of the treasury, authorized this motto to be placed on the coin.
5. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America includes the words "one Nation under God,". These words were added June 14, 1954 by Public Law 396, a joint resolution by the Senate and House of Representatives in Congress assembled.
6. THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CONTAINS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF GOD.
7. The acknowledgements of GOD on the coinage and paper money and in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America exist at a lower level of government than the CONSTITUTION and are not a substitute for the lack of an acknowledgement in that document. Addition of such acknowledgement requires AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
8. You can help to make this happen. Take a stand for adding an acknowledgement of God to the Constitution.
The constitution of each state in the United States of America contains some specific acknowledgement of GOD. The CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (the federal constitution) does not.
Amend the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to add a specific acknowledgement of GOD, possibly by adding words to the effect that the country is "ONE NATION UNDER GOD"
